The group, founded in 1995 by drummer/producer 'Stumpy', is made up of killer players: 'Sleepa' on guitar and vocals, 'Stoo Lee', 'Fine' Art Manchester, and Jeff '9th Wonder' Watkins on sax, 'Lydia' on vocals, 'Sweet' Willie Myette on keyboards, 'T-Black' on keyboards and vocals, 'Sir' Thomas Brinkley, 'Jack Fury', and Frank 'Frankie Thumbs' Wilson on bass and Jaz 'Nix'-on on percussion and vocals. Herbal Nation's first full length studio cd "herbal nation", on 421records, was recently named 'album of the year' in the 2006 Global and American Marijuana Music Awards. The cd features special guest performances by Jeff Watkins, saxophonist for the Godfather of Soul himself, Mr. James Brown, and has 3 versions of their anthem 'We Love the Herb', The 2006 Global and American Marijuana Music Awards 'song of the year '. Herbal Nation has appeared with artists such as Maceo Parker, Bernie Worrell, Cypress Hill, De La Soul, Fred Wesley, Toots and the Maytals, and they rang in 2005 by bringing their jams to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to open for George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic on New Year's Eve. Featured on numerous occasions in High Times Magazine, they have headlined shows at the High Times Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam in 2002 and 2004, and have also headlined the annual MassCann/NORML WBCN Freedom Rally on Boston Common and Lebowski Fest NYC at The Knitting Factory in New York City.
